Re: Private Dick Bill

Harvey,

Per orders and effective immediately, Private Dick Bill has been transferred from 1st Battalion 23rd Infantry to 1st Battalion 29th Infantry. Having personally observed Private Bill's field performance for the past six weeks, I felt it necessary to brief you about this unique trooper, as you may find it beneficial to have an advance familiarity with Private Bill and his eccentric yet somehow effective tactical mindset.

Attached you will find my recent Performance Evaluation of Private Bill. Please review it previous to Private Bill's arrival.

I must say I feel an overwhelming sense of personal relief - strangely, tinged with sadness - that Private Dick Bill has been transferred to your command; though volatile as a soldier, his subtle charm - which many troops and officers agree is a bit of an acquired taste - at least tends to bring comedic relief to tense combat situations, often boosting the moral of the troops immeasurably. Private Bill's true value to his outfit may be difficult to translate in print - you'll just have to see for yourself. Unfortunately, I feel that either through ordered discharge or combat wound, one way or another, the U.S. Army will not be able to retain Private Bill's services for too long.

Good luck,
Jack

Capacity to acquire knowledge/grasp concepts: Largely dependent on time of day. Not too quick on the uptake during morning hours, but sharp as a tack at night. Enthusiastic and extremely thorough during late-night supply runs/missions. Occasional problem recalling and briefing command about mission events that occurred the night previous.

Level of physical fitness: Extraordinary stamina during long missions; can go as long as three days without sleep or food by using various kinds of auxiliary sustenance. Incredibly high pain threshold when "in the zone."

Performance under physical and mental stress: Seems virtually unaffected by stressful situations, almost as if he doesn't recognize and/or acknowledge events that would push other troops into retreat and/or uncertainty.

Proficiency with weapons: Ample, though he's always low on ammo. Unexplainable. Command has been unable to decipher what Private Bill does with all of his ammo, though on more than one occasion he's been overheard suggesting that he "likes things very dead." Requires further observation.

Level of preparedness: Absolutely useless for first two days following weekend leave/pass. Otherwise, ready for action on moment's notice. Vote 'Dick Bill' 2004

Almost-detrimentally fearless; a good lead man. Has odd willingness to run blindly into minefields - "boom lots," as Private Bill calls them - with enthusiasm and undeniably "lucky" results.

Coincidence or not, it should be noted that at least three medics have voiced unconfirmed concerns/suspicions regarding the depleted contents of their medical kits following encounters with Private Dick. More specifically, medics report "missing" morphine doses seeming to simultaneously accompany Private Dick behaving "overly happy." Something to keep an eye on.
