Those who grump and whine about 'remakes' should check out the treatments given to these '80s songs by high-profile 21st Century bands. Especially recommended to those who can remember at least three members of 'The Brat Pack.' The disc is introduced by a warped-up version of "Tainted Love" that is recognizable but bears the firm stamp of Marilyn Manson. Unique interpretations by System of a Down, Smashing Pumpkins, Mest and others are a pleasure to hear. The bands follow Manson's lead, leaving the core recognizability of the songs intact, while managing to mark them with signature styles. "99 Red Balloons" by Goldfinger and "If You Leave" by Good Charlotte are especially charming.-KF
