Rather than woefully hibernating into smack-riddled depression after singer Travis Meeks' pink-slip party, these three former members of Days of the New instead opted to retool with a vocal facsimile of their former frontman. Listeners will immediately recognize Tantric's upbeat acoustic riffs and harmonized vocal lines as shadows of their old Days ways - an indication of exactly how much of the first Days album's sound can be accredited to the instrumentalists. What's new is distorted guitar's rise in minority standing, which adds much needed balls to Tantric's mostly acoustic endeavor. Still, Meeks is missed; the vocal melodies and lyrics are not quite as catchy as Days of the New material. Wicked production twists (mostly on the guitars) are, sadly, drowned out by the album's heavy vocal mix, which dominates even the drum levels, and consequentially, their power. Tantric's songwriting and performance is strong, and their vengeful spirit, commendable.-Cliff Frantz
