Jamesen opens their 40-minute Friction Records release with an absolutely monstrous 5/4 guitar riff that, when joined by tight drumming and a bad ass crawling octave guitar part, gets American Picture off to an impressive start. The incredibly complex and appealing arrangements found throughout the 10-song disc consistently provide each song’s highlight, especially on the title track. Musically, Jamesen may be one of most creative guitar rock bands in the state, but American Picture’s vocal melodies and dynamics fall comparatively short of its high musical benchmark, compromising what could have been a very hot album.
